⁵² He also fortified the city of Beth-zur, Gazara, and the citadel, and in them he placed soldiers and stores of provisions. ⁵³ He took the sons of the leading men of the country as hostages and placed them under guard in the citadel at Jerusalem.

⁵⁴ Alcimus Dies Paralyzed. In the year one hundred and fifty-three, in the second month, Alcimus ordered the demolition of the wall of the inner court of the sanctuary, thereby destroying the work of the prophets.
